REAL COMPANHIA VELHA

Real Companhia Velha is the oldest wine company in Portugal, having celebrated 265 years of existence and uninterrupted activity. Since its foundation on the 10th september 1756 by Royal Charter of D. José I, King of Portugal, under the auspices of his Prime Minister, Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo, Marquis of Pombal, the importance of this chartered Company was reflected by the valuable services to the community, being the most relevant, the demarcation of the Douro region – the oldest wine appellation in the world.
Since 1960, Real Companhia Velha has been run by the Silva Reis family, who have dedicated their efforts to the production of both Port and Douro wines, focusing on the study and development of the Douro terroir. The Company owns 5 quintas in the Douro valley – Quinta das Carvalhas, Quinta de Cidrô, Quinta dos Aciprestes, Quinta do Casal da Granja and Quinta do Síbio – with a total vineyard surface of 557 hectars.

QUINTA da PACHECA

Among the valleys of the Douro River, near the left bank, in the village of Cambres, Lamego county, in the heart of the first Pombaline demarcation of the Region, is Quinta da Pacheca, one of the most prestigious and recognized properties in the Douro Demarcated Region. The history of the vineyard in this property dates back to the XVI century when it was a collection of vines that belonged to the Monasteries of Salzedas and St. João de Tarouca, as referred to in a document dating 1551. The estate is mentioned for the first time in a document dat- ed from April 1738 where it is referred to as “Pacheca”, a feminine form of the family name Pacheco for being owned by Da. Mariana Pacheco Pereira, powerful woman who took care of the property by herself.

Pinhão

Spectacularly located at the confluence of the Douro and Pinhão rivers, the delightful town of Pinhão lies at the very heart of northern Portugal‘s famous Port wine-making region. Pinhão railway station is worth seeing even if you are not travelling anywhere by train. The walls are liberally decorated with lovely azulejo tiles, with several large, very well-preserved panels portraying historic scenes of the surrounding area, thus giving visitors a good idea of how the Douro looked before the dams were built and the river was made navigable.

SANDEMAN QUINTA DO SEIXO

There are few landscapes in Portugal as rich in beauty and history as Quinta do Seixo’s views. With 100 hectares and vines with over a hundred years of history, this place is a mosaic of tradition. Just strolling through the vineyards and get ready to be dazzled by nature’s living colours. A liveliness that gains new tons as the seasons change. In addition to the undeniable beauty, it is here at Quinta do Seixo that our high-quality wines born and take shape. Something that we can only achieve with a winery equipped with the most advanced winemaking technology and by respecting the tradition of producing only great wines.

DOURO RIVER EVENING DINNER CRUISE

Enjoy a fantastic night on board a river boat cruise with a delicious dinner as you sail the Douro River! Enjoy a glass of local wine as the views of soaring bell towers, Baroque churches, and stately Beaux-arts buildings are illuminated by the last streams of sunlight.
