Activities at and near Sugar Beach Resort


In addition to the workshop offerings and other included activities (see Overview) there are several optional activities available at your own cost.

IMG_2248 (1)Just a few steps away from your accommodations is the beach and the playful warm waves of the Pacific Ocean. Because Sugar Beach is in a bay, it does not have the dangerous rip tides that are often present on other beaches. As in all ocean settings, it is important to swim safely and always be with a partner. During low tide you can walk along the beach all the way to Potrero, a typical Costa Rican village that is nearby.

There is a swimming pool for you to enjoy and there are trails available that allow you to explore this tropical area.

An easy 20 minute walk south of Sugar Beach is Pura VidaRide where you can rent: paddle boards, surf boards, boogie boards, snorkeling equipment, mountain bikes, kayaks and more. They also have a fun little restaurant there and they serve very tasty gelato.

Enjoy a full day of adventures!!!
We will pick you up at Sugar Beach Resort and drive you to your destination, which is about 1 3/4 hours away. Once there, you will follow the trails that will take you to the top of the trees.  The tree top canopy has twelve platforms and ten zip lines that range from 150 to 400 feet in length…really thrilling and safe rides!

Cool off on the 1500 ft. long water slide. Enjoy a refreshing journey as you go down this slide with an inner-tube…a great way to invigorate yourself and have fun!

And then, horseback riding to the thermal waters, steam bath and natural spa, located at the foot of Rincon de la Vieja Volcano.

This is a very active and full day and a wonderful way to experience some of Costa Rica’s adventures

Duration:       Full day!!  Starts: 7:30 am – 6 pm Approx.

Wear:              Tennis shoes, shirt and shorts.

Bring:             Camera, binoculars, swimsuit, long pants, sunscreen, insect repellent and a change of clothes.

This is a perfect journey for wildlife lovers!!! Come and visit Palo Verde, one of the most important and interesting National Parks in Costa Rica.

You will experience 12 different habitats within the park including: mangroves, swamps, swamps forests, saltwater and freshwater lagoons and marshes.

Enjoy a two hour boat ride on the Tempisque River watching: the fabulous array of wild birds, a myriad of creatures such as howler  and whiteface monkeys, green iguanas, coatis, anteaters and crocodiles.

Duration:       Full Day!! 7 hours

Wear:              Tennis shoes or sandals, shorts and T shirt.

Bring:             Camera, binoculars, sunscreen, insect repellent, hat or cap.

Air-conditioned, round trip transportation, English speaking guide, LUNCH.

This canopy tour is located in a little town named Artola which is very close to several  beaches.

You will enjoy your day  flying down several suspended cables and experience a walk bridge between two platforms…this is a truly exhilarating and exciting experience. If we are lucky even the Howler Monkeys will be our company during a part of the canopy tour.

Duration:       Half day!!     FROM 8:30 am – 1 pm


Wear:              Hiking or tennis shoes, knee shorts or pants, T shirt and a cap.

Bring:             Binoculars, camera, sunscreen and insect repellent.

Included:       Air-conditioned, round trip transportation, English speaking guide.

On this adventure, you will visit the Tamarindo Wildlife Refuge which protects a large estuary, mangrove forest and tropical dry forest in an area covering almost 500 hectares.

On this journey we will pick you up at Sugar Beach Resort and drive for about 45 minutes. You will then board a small  boat that takes you to the narrow canals as you observe various plants, trees and animals.  You may be able to see rare and abundant wildlife,  including dozens of bird species and two species of monkeys  while learning about the unique ecosystem  of the mangrove forest.

Duration:       Half day!!     Starts:  Depends on the tide…check with us 

Wear:              Cool comfortable clothes, beach sandals and hat.

Bring:             Binoculars, camera, sunscreen and insect repellent.
